Software Engineer Simulation & Visualisation

MARIN Wageningen (6708PM)

Contract: Uren: 32 - 40Salaris:

Job description

Are you looking forward to build the world’s largest and most innovative maritime simulators? Join our team!

What are you going to do?

You will join our Software Engineering team within the Simulation & Visualisation department. This team develops the DOLPHIN simulation software that drives bridge simulators at MARIN and various third party facilities around the world. The facilities are used to simulate the full range of maritime operations. From simple ship handling to really complex maritime operations, like high-risk, multi-player offshore operations.

In the coming years, MARIN will develop a completely new Seven Oceans Simulator centre (SOSc). This centre will house several maritime bridge simulators, different types of virtual and augmented reality systems and hexapod motion platforms. The aim of the new centre is to provide a safe and even more realistic environment where complex and critical maritime operations can be carried out for research and training purposes. You will be building and extending the software that drives the SOSc.

Who are we looking for?

An enthusiastic colleague with a degree in software engineering, or similar relevant working experience, and an affinity with simulations. Working on challenging projects in various teams energises you. You are proud of the software you write and feel responsible for the results. As such, initiating improvements and new developments comes naturally to you, and you always aim to find the best solution for a problem or request. You communicate clearly in Dutch or English within a team of nine developers, and work closely together with the teams that operate the simulators. You enjoy working on many parts of a large (1 MLOC) code base, mostly written in C++ and some C#.

What do we offer?

You will work at MARIN, an independent and globally recognized top institute in hydrodynamic and nautical research. MARIN’s mission is to make shipping cleaner, smarter and safer and to contribute to the sustainable use of ports, waterways and the sea. You will develop software in a highly technical environment and your deliverables will have a direct impact on achieving our mission. MARIN’s horizontal organisation and open-door culture are a breeding ground for good cooperation and makes other MARIN experts easily accessible.
