Avery Dennison Oegstgeest (2340)

Contract: Uren: Salaris:

Job description

Job Description

In this role as an EHS/PSM Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing Process Safety Management (PSM) development and support for 6 solvent plants in the EMENA region: France-1, Belgium-2, Netherlands-1, Israel-1, and UK-1.

  • EHS Management in two locations in the Netherlands: our Leiden Pilot Plant and our European HQ in Oegstgeest.

At our pilot plant in Leiden, we test new techniques and adhesives, simulating them for our plants across Europe. At our Head Office in Oegstgeest, we have approximately 400 employees in a modern office facility, along with a lab for developing new adhesives.

To strengthen our team, we're looking for a hands-on EHS/PSM Manager based in Alphen a/d Rijn and Oegstgeest. In this position, you will report directly to the EHS Director EMENA.

Your responsibilities will be split as follows:

Divisional PSM Support and Development (60%)

This is a key position where you'll be the vital link between our process safety strategy and its practical application across multiple sites. You'll use your deep knowledge to coach and guide local teams, fostering a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance. Your responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a technical expert on PSM, providing hands-on advice and support.

  • Conducting site audits and providing focused mentoring to plant teams.

  • Acting as a crucial bridge for Process Safety Management (PSM) across the region by collaborating closely with global and EMENA PSM teams.

  • Working with Engineering during the early project phases to embed safety from the start.

  • Delivering and developing new site-specific PSM training to local management and team leaders.

  • Supporting sites with the implementation of PSM Roadmaps and OGSM.

  • Monitoring and facilitating the closure of corporate audit action plans.

  • Leading PSM Council meetings (Operations, EHS, PSM) and managing the implementation of PSM Golden Actions.

  • Mentoring new PSM engineers and advising sites on new environmental legislation and green chemistry practices.

EHS/PSM Support for Oegstgeest and Leiden (40%)

This role requires a practical, hands-on approach to managing day-to-day safety operations. You will be responsible for implementing our global corporate EHS and PSM programs and ensuring our sustainability goals are met.

  • Conducting thorough risk assessments, including those for CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, Reprotoxic) substances.

  • Providing guidance on new environmental legislation and green chemistry practices.

  • Safety Systems & Regulatory Compliance: You must have a deep understanding of Dutch health and safety law (Arbowetgeving) and related regulations. Your expertise should cover the full lifecycle of chemical management, from handling and storage to disposal, including knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and proper labeling. You'll ensure full compliance with all relevant environmental and safety regulations.

  • Chemical Safety & Risk Assessment: Your expertise in this area is critical. You'll identify chemical hazards, conduct detailed risk assessments, and implement control measures, with a focus on standards for flammable liquids and PSM. Basic knowledge of ATEX zoning and equipment, as well as gas measuring techniques, is also required.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have a technical or bachelor / university degree in Environment, Health and Safety or Chemical/Process Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. A deep expertise in occupational and process safety (HAZOP, PHA, PSM) is a must.

We're looking for a professional who is not only a technical expert but also a natural coach and a hands-on leader. You should have:

  • Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring, and training skills.

  • Extensive experience in industrial and occupational EHS within a manufacturing environment.

  • Excellent knowledge of Dutch health and safety legislation (Arbowetgeving) and related EU regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.

  • Hands-on experience with life safety codes, HAZOP, and the principles of industrial hygiene.

  • Proven project management and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant software systems.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills in both Dutch and English.
