A Day in the Life
The Medtronic site located in Kerkrade, the Netherlands, is evolving into a high-performance, data-driven, and connected manufacturing environment, supporting cleanroom assembly, warehousing, and quality operations. As part of this transformation, we have combined our value chain enabling functions — Process Engineering, Maintenance & Facility Services, Operational Excellence, and Environmental Health & Safety — into a multidisciplinary support department. This team deploys Flow Acceleration-style production cells, harmonizes Tier management structures, and drives changeover minimization across assembly operations.
We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer who is an engaged process improver with a track record of delivering performance improvements in manufacturing. You will work directly on the production floor, engaging supervisors, cell leads, and operators, while applying analytical, structured, and data-driven approaches to improve productivity, process robustness, and compliance.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Develop, improve, and simplify processes across the value chain, including assembly, warehousing, and quality controlProvide engineering support for troubleshooting, operator guidance, and continuous improvementFacilitate daily Tier management huddles and lead problem-solving initiativesOptimize productivity, capacity, process robustness, safety, and compliance using DMAIC, Flow Acceleration, SMED, and other Operational Excellence methodologiesDevelop Standard Work, work instructions, and operator training tools to improve procedural adherence and operational performancePlan, execute, and report on equipment qualification and process validation (Design of Experiments, FMEA, Statistical Process Control)Lead engineering projects, ensuring solid planning, execution, monitoring, and reportingSupport process automation, digitization, and data-driven performance visualization, aligning with other enabling functions such as QA, Maintenance, EHS, and Operational ExcellenceRequired Knowledge and Experience:
10+ years of experience in multidisciplinary manufacturing environments, with proven success as a process or manufacturing engineerStrong knowledge of manufacturing technologies, industrial engineering, assembly processes, and process automationDemonstrable track record in performance improvement, productivity, and process robustnessExpertise in continuous improvement methodologies such as DMAIC, Value Stream Analysis, SMED, Material Flow, Tier Management, 5S, Flow AccelerationExperience with Equipment Qualification, Process Validation, and statistical toolsData-driven mindset, skilled in developing and visualizing performance management structuresStrong project leadership skills, delivering on time and exceeding expectationsAnalytical, structured, and results-oriented, with the ability to work on the shop floor and engage with all levels of the organizationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related fieldFluency in English; Dutch proficiency preferredSolid experience with Office 365 and business intelligence/reporting tools such as Power BIAffinity for regulated, system-structured industries (medical devices, pharma, food, automotive)Willingness to travel internationally (
