Job description

About Van Hessen

Van Hessen is the leading global player in the harvesting, processing and distribution of natural casings, meat products and raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry. Through our worldwide operations within slaughterhouses, we work close to the source—ensuring a consistent flow of raw materials and maintaining high-quality standards by overseeing every step of the supply chain.

About the Role

Within our Innovation Centre, we are shaping the future of our production—making it smarter, more efficient and increasingly automated.

As a Development Engineer, you will not simply maintain existing systems—you will design and build new ones from the ground up. From concept and prototyping through to real-world implementation, your work will have a direct impact on operations across our global sites.

You will join a small, collaborative and forward-thinking team, with colleagues based in both Denmark and Cuijk. Supported by a larger, well-structured organisation, you will have the freedom, creativity and budget to bring your ideas to life.

What Makes This Role Different?

  • Genuine ownership of projects and solutions
  • An environment where ideas are quickly turned into prototypes and tested
  • The opportunity to build future-proof production concepts
  • Freedom to innovate and experiment
  • Direct and visible impact on global operations and performance
  • Key Responsibilities

  • Develop machines from scratch: from concept and design through to prototype and final implementation
  • Design and develop PLC software and control architectures
  • Automate and robotise both existing and new production processes
  • Standardise control solutions across multiple international locations
  • Develop and validate innovations within our in-house test environment
  • Commission new installations and support implementation on site
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and technology roadmaps
  • About You

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with PLC platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal, CoDeSys or similar
  • Strong conceptual thinking and a systems-based approach
  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively to a team
  • A natural drive to improve, innovate and optimise
  • What We Offer

  • Competitive salary aligned to your experience
  • Bonus scheme
  • 25 days’ holiday
  • High level of autonomy and responsibility
  • Access to relevant and interesting training courses
  • An innovative and supportive working environment
  • What’s Next

Applications should be sent to [email protected]

Please note this is a direct search led by Van Hessen. Applications from agencies will not be accepted nor will fees be paid for unsolicited CVs.

Equality and diversity at Van Hessen / SARIA's group of companies

We value diversity and are committed to an inclusive working environment in which all employees are respected and supported regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or social background. We expressly welcome applications from people with a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Our goal is to ensure equal opportunities and actively combat discrimination – both in the application process and in everyday working life.
