Software Architect / Senior Software Designer

Delve Search are working with a growing high-tech equipment manufacturer in Eindhoven to recruit a Software Architect / Senior Software Designer.

The business develops complex manufacturing equipment used in emerging technologies including co-packaged optics, AI data centres, AR/VR, biosensors and microLEDs. As the company grows, they are looking for an experienced software professional to take ownership of the wider software direction behind their machines.

The Role

This is a senior technical position combining software architecture, design and hands-on engineering. You will take responsibility for the overall software roadmap, provide technical direction to the existing software team and help establish the structure needed as the organisation continues to scale.

Responsibilities:

• Define and develop the software architecture for complex high-tech machinery
• Create and maintain the longer-term software roadmap
• Provide technical leadership and guide software design decisions
• Define requirements and specifications for internal and outsourced development
• Coordinate external software partners and suppliers
• Integrate different software building blocks within the wider machine architecture
• Remain hands-on with software design and development where required
• Improve structure around documentation, testing, bug tracking and planning
• Support wider software topics including cybersecurity, connectivity and HMI architecture

Your Background

• 7+ years of software experience within complex machinery or equipment
• Experience defining software architecture, designs, requirements and specifications
• Strong understanding of PLC-based machine control
• Experience providing technical leadership or guiding other software engineers
• Broad software knowledge with the ability to operate beyond detailed programming
• Experience working with external development partners or software suppliers
• Comfortable combining system-level thinking with hands-on engineering
• Experience within multidisciplinary machine development

The current environment includes Beckhoff TwinCAT, Structured Text and Python. Direct Beckhoff experience would be beneficial but is not essential, with other PLC environments such as Siemens or Allen-Bradley also relevant. Experience with C++, C# or other object-oriented programming languages would also be useful.
