Assignment Description
Application Rationalization is the strategic process of evaluating client’s software portfolio to determine which applications should be kept, replaced, retired, or consolidated. The objective is to identify redundancies and underperforming tools to reduce IT cost, simplify the application landscape, and improve operational efficiency. A key outcome is to strengthen transparency between application cost, technical fitness, and business value, enabling measurable value creation and alignment with current business goals.
The Digital Solution Analyst will focus on the technical and solution‑level assessment of applications within the Application Rationalization initiative. The role evaluates technical fitness, architecture, and modernization or replacement potential.
Key responsibilities include:
Conduct technical‑focused interviews with solution owners to evaluate application fitness and challenge continued use of legacy solutions
Analyze technology stacks within complex software solutions and assess alignment with Equinor governance and best practices
Distinguish between essential core functionality and edge‑case features that currently justify keeping redundant or low‑value solutions
Perform technical change and impact assessments when turning off or replacing services, mapping functionality to available alternatives
Contribute to refinement of the rationalization process, including defining early‑exit criteria for low‑risk or low‑value cases
Qualifications
Strong influence and facilitation skills to challenge solution owners and navigate resistance in replacement and modernization discussions
Ability to analyze and document complex solution architectures and underlying technology stacks
Commercial understanding of cost versus business output, identifying over‑engineered or over‑priced solutions
Solid SDLC and digital solution evaluation skills, including identification of technical debt and assessment of replace‑versus‑modernize options
Previous experience with application rationalization is an advantage
Familiarity with client’s TOpM model is an advantage
