Job Description

Key Focus/Responsibilities:

  • Provide input and work with business management to define business strategy
  • Implement the global business objectives in alignment with the overarching global strategies, adapted to specific market conditions
  • Support Business Director / Manager in day-to-day business in the regions
  • Ensure functional alignment through communication and team follow-up
  • Minimize costs / maximize profitability through asset management (reduce working capital, product rationalization and plant optimization) with S&OP
  • Work with other product managers to ensure production plan alignment across plants and divisions/businesses
  • Develop and communicate a clear understanding of the market to include:
    • Customer needs and end use applications
    • Cost in use throughout the value chain including end use
    • Competitive products/formulations
    • Competitive cost – advantages and disadvantages
    • Segmentation of the market based on above data
    • Competitive volume and revenue share by customer
  • Define Albemarle’s competitive advantage and tactics of execution
  • Formulate and implement a pricing strategy based on above market data
  • Identify and cultivate opportunities for growth to include
    • Existing product portfolio
    • Share shift from competing producers / technologies
    • New applications / markets
  • Pricing, volume, and business performance in the regions
  • Constantly compare strategy and understanding of the market against results (price, volume, customers) and if there are disconnects, provide feedback and recommendations to Business Management
  • Providing regional input into global business management process
  • Track and report profit and cost performance versus budget and monthly, quarterly, and annual targets
  • Driving functional alignment and completion of milestones
  • Maintenance of databases on:
    • Markets
    • Products
    • Competitors (globally and by region)
    • Competitive technologies
    • Market share
    • Global import / export statistics
  • Maintain respective Division overview presentation
  • Serve as Business lead on new product development initiatives supported by Business Management
  • Monitors regulatory and federal/state HSE programs and initiatives that may have an impact on the business and communicates risks and/or opportunities to Business Management
  • Build and maintain collaborative and trusting relationships with Sales, CTS, CSRs, Warehouse, R/T, Manufacturing, and Purchasing

Accountabilities:

  • Deliver forecast accuracy in alignment with GBU targets while having pipeline of opportunistic plays
  • Checks monthly production plans ensuring product availability at the best cost position
  • Develops framework and works with Business Management to create commercial agreements aligned with overall Business Strategy and facilitates internally with key stakeholders and executes externally through Sales
  • Execution of pricing strategies
  • Manages product specifications and order priorities as needed
  • Gathers and assimilates competitive intelligence and keeps Business Management informed of changes in customer behavior, strategies, and value propositions
  • Grow existing product portfolio in alignment with Global Business strategy
  • Provides input, develops business plan, and executes new product / market roll-outs in alignment with overall Global Business strategies
  • Maintain cost models for each production location (fixed, variable) and optimize
  • Limited P&L (i.e. Chemical Catalysts, ISOM, SPA, etc.)

Knowledge and experience:

  • University degree in Chemical Engineering, PhD or equivalent through work experience
  • Solid experience in refinery or refinery related (catalysts)
  • Minimum 3 years technical-commercial, commercial, customer facing experience (business, sales, Technical Sales and Services, etc.)
  • Results driven, strong problem solving, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Solid background in cost models and economic evaluation
