VMware System Egineer (senior) - Amsterdam - up to €70K- EMC

For one of my business partners, i am looking for an experience VM-Ware system Engineer. This international company is based in Amsterdam and has other offices arround the world.

Due to an increasement of duties, they are looking for a new collegue within their infrastructure team.

The Infrastructure Support team is accountable for the following systems: Linux and Windows systems; Oracle and SQL databases, Cisco / Juniper network components, VMware, Storage and Back up environment. Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.

As a Senior Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the following technologies: Windows, VMware, Storage & Backup.

Your main responsibilities as Senior Systems Engineer will involve:

• Build, install, configure and maintain VMware products including ESXi servers, HA clusters and Virtual Center
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution of the entire Virtualization Infrastructure
• 3rd Line support for escalations from the IT Helpdesk
• Develop, automate and implement operations best practices
• Effectively collaborate with Server / Storage / Network / Data Center / Facilities / Audit / Compliance and project management teams
• Participate in Business Continuation / Disaster Recovery infrastructure planning, building, and testing
• Management and monitoring of the backup environment, including tape handling and restore tasks
• Provide the required daily support, maintenance, and management of the platforms
• Assist in SAN capacity planning, maintenance, troubleshooting hardware issues
• Manage enterprise applications responsible for server builds, patch management, virtual machine management, virus scanning, etc.
• Develop and maintain high standards in establishing procedures and policies to address routine jobs and certain resolution protocols
• Monitor server performance using Zabbix or other tools and reduce the time needed to address hardware/software failures
• Participate in the department, out of hours, on call rota
• Help maintain and support a 24x7 Production Data Center

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience within a similar role
• Strong background with virtualization technologies, VMware (vSphere/vCenter) knowledge is essential. Knowledge of SRM is a plus
• Understanding and hands on experience with EMC CLARiioN/VNX SAN's and switch fabrics (Brocade/Cisco)
• Technical knowledge of HP hardware, particularly blade technology, iLo, HP SIM
• Good understanding of Windows Server / and familiarity with Exchange / & MS SQL a definite bonus
• Active Directory design and operations, including Group Policy
• Experience with backup software and libraries, ideally EMC Networker
• Expertise in the following network services: DNS, DHCP, LDAP, TCP/IP
• Fundamental knowledge of PowerShell
• Understanding of file systems (eg. CIFS, NFS)
• Knowledge of monitoring tools, such as Nagios/Zabbix
